Body fat has an annoying tendency to stick around in all the wrong places no matter how much you diet and exercise. If you want to shed the last few inches of post-pregnancy belly fat, slim down your thighs, or reduce the circumference of your upper arms, you may need to seek out help in the form of liposuction. When it comes to respected plastic surgeon Dr. Bash, stubborn body fat does not stand a chance! Dr. Bash has been helping Scottsdale residents achieve their ideal body image through body contouring and plastic surgery for 25 years. She takes a great deal of pride in the quality of her services and her outstanding patient care, which makes her the ideal choice for your liposuction procedure.
The basics of liposuction
During a liposuction procedure, a plastic surgeon inserts a small, hollow tube into the area of concern, targeting unwanted fat between the skin and muscle tissue. Excess fat cells are then suctioned out, leaving behind a slimmer, more contoured shape. Perfect for eliminating areas of diet- and exercise-resistant fat, liposuction can be performed in conjunction with an open such as a tummy tuck.
Things to consider before getting liposuction
Though liposuction eliminates excess fat, THE PROCEDURE IS NOT ABOUT WEIGHT LOSS. If you have a notable weight issue, you will need to address that first before considering liposuction. Results are best when you are near your ideal body weight, so utilize diet, exercise, or other weight loss methods to achieve your target weight.
Liposuction may be right for you if:
- You have areas of diet- and exercise-resistant fat that are out of proportion with the rest of your body
- You have firm, elastic skin
- You are within a normal weight range
- You want more definition in certain areas to attain a sleeker, more athletic appearance
- Your skin has the ability to contract
During your liposuction consultation, Dr. Bash will conduct a thorough assessment to determine if you are healthy enough to undergo surgery or if other procedures will be needed to contour the skin.
What to Expect
Though recovery can vary with each person, pain is usually mild to moderate. Dressings will be applied to the treated areas, and you will need to wear a compression garment for 6 weeks to help support and “shrink” the skin. Swelling is common during the first 48 hours following surgery, and bruising typically disappears within several weeks. Avoid straining, bending over, and lifting during the early postoperative period, but you should be able to resume most of your normal activities within 6 weeks. Due to the gradual nature of the healing process, it can take up to six months to see final results of liposuction.
